Nora Schmel

I am a London based visual and book artist, currently finishing my MA Book Arts course at Camberwell College of Arts.
The core of my practice is based on sensation and observation. I observe perspectives as viewpoint as well as in the architectural meaning of the term. Examining the legacy of our past and its impact on our present, and vice versa provides the fundamental context of my current art practice. Photographs, paper and ink are my primary tools in various forms. You most often find me printing with photolithography, letterpress or the risograph machine, sitting with my typewriter, making collages by using a photocopier or carrying a pile of books out from libraries. The focus of my interest is based on construction and disarrangement within words, characters and places.
Beside completing my studies in Camberwell, I have recently been awarded a residency at London Centre for Book Arts and had an amazing time printing a risograph zine in collaboration with five fellow artists at Manchester School of Art.
I have been selected to Xhibit and displayed at Arts Bermondsey Project Space in London, and I exhibit regularly in book fairs across the UK and take part of artistic project in support of local communities in London.
